Since the year 2003 the Costa Rican music label ‘Papaya Music’ set CD’s with Costa Rican music in the market. These CD’s are very beautifully designed en bring a brief cross-section of Costa Rican traditional- and popmusic. So there is music from the Guanacastecan pampa’s, Calypso’s from Walter Ferguson, the local hero from Cahuita, a CD with different styles of dance music and of course, music from one of the more popular bands: Malpaís.
The music label honoured the musicians on December 6th at the Jazz-café, a Dutch owned concert hall, that forms a pivot in the music life of Costa Rica. During the presentation it became clear that national and international interest in Costa Rican music is rising.
The Papaya Music music label is an example of a successfull combination of preserving the national culture and a good marketing concept. The CD’s are available in most souvenir shops and easy to get for tourists. Twenty CD’s are released by Papaya Music. |
